This spacious tower apartment with longitudinal terraces on both facades was purchased for a perfect incidence of light and magnificent views over the historic city center of Ghent (BE). Nevertheless the main qualities remained well hidden by dark corridors leading to several smaller rooms. Altu eliminated all the superfluous walls leaving the new apartment as a continuous sequence of living areas around a central core. Two industrial glass sliding walls between bed-and bathrooms bring light, sight, sunrise and sunset into the center of the new apartment. The existing, now freestanding, concrete structure was left exposed and frames the new dark blue kitchen as a deliberate encounter of old and new.
